Not so pleased
Dear Pleased with Council,
I sat in on that meeting last night as well and I didn?’t hear the same ?“Growth Management Plans?” you seemed to be so pleased with.
What they will do from a community stand point is to load us all up on debt and then we have no other choice but to approve more houses just to pay off this debt.
The second point is how do you know what they approved? The ?“ORIGINAL?” ordinance (2003-17) submitted by David Shaver was NOT approved. Councilman Craig Maxey offered an amendment by substitution after ordinance 2003-17 DID NOT PASS last night. They basically left the future of any growth control over to the BIA. The BIA must sign off on this and we are now at their mercy.
Clearly if you listened to the councilmen Fox, Maxey, Parker, and in previous meetings Bill Wright along with new comer Mike Sabatino. None of these five councilmen see any problems with growth. Clearly they are making up excuses not to control growth. The ordinance that they passed last night will not control growth and without a true limit on the number of New Homes each year we are stuck with the ever increasing problem of funding the school operating expenses. None of what they did last night addresses our current problem. If we do adopt a growth management plan then it will affect the funding of the Community Authority. Clearly the BIA wants to prevent this city from limiting the number of new houses and that is also in their proposal. Once this ordinance is adopted they can approve what ever housing density they want no matter what the voters said last November with issue 17. Clearly Craig Maxey and others have a vehicle to NEVER control residential growth.
I hope the WEB master posts a copy of that last minute ordinance passed last night
While the City Council gets headlines this morning about how the council addressed the growth issue we truly sit here now waiting on the BIA to response to tell us all what they will do or not do. If the BIA choices not to enter into a Community Authority at 10 mils then all of this frivolous debate will be all wasted efforts.
I for one will continue with my moratorium and growth management plan initiative. However it will only be successful if we have people on the Pickerington City Council willing to listen to the citizens of Pickerington rather than making deals at the last minute or in the back room with the BIA. I also believe that the only way we will ever settle the differences with the township resident and the trustees is to also find a new city council.
We currently have five on council that refuse to listen. Before you can solve any problem you must be able to see the problem. If your sphere of influence is only the BIA and their attorneys then you develop tunnel vision and the people you are charged to serve become outsiders. The city voters are now outsiders in this debate.
