“Shock and Awe”

Posted in: PATA
I read below that Dr. Rigelman says that we shouldn?’t cut out nose off to spite our face. He says we should pass the school levy in May to support our schools. Clearly I disagree. The levy will only support the athletic programs and nothing else. It will be their pay back for getting that $77 million passed for the new High School. Last night I understand that our school board passes a resolution promising that they will restore the Coach?’s contracts if this levy passes. Will they re-instate the gifted program? Probably not.

I am shocked at what little our school board does to control growth and I am awed by what other school districts do in this state to support their school district by attacking the root cause of their funding problems. Dr. Rigelman says he is going to go public and support a recall of the majority of Pickerington City Council. Yet he has done nothing to date to make that statement to the general public.

It doesn?’t take a rocket scientist to figure out where all of our money is going by driving by the new high school complex. Obviously there was a great influence from the athletic boosters in putting up these buildings. Clearly we will be paying for this $12 million complex for a very long time. Each year we will need even more operating funds to keep the doors open. Obviously we have a rich school and a poor school. Why should the poor folks support more money to the school system that our personal budgets can?’t afford? Why should the parents of college bound students support a school district that cares only about the jocks? Why should the empty nesters support a school district that lacks any courage in controlling their budget and fighting for our rights with the City? What about the treaths that the school is sending home with the kids?

Please be aware my Mother only received a 1.96% increase in her social security checks this year. Yet this same school district is asking for an increase of 16% of her real estate taxes. Her gas bill to heat her home has gone up over 10% and food also is creeping up again. The fact is my mother doesn?’t have the money to give to the schools if she still wants medication for her high blood pressure.

My brother works for K-Mart. He is expecting his job to be gone at the end of April just a few days before the schools want their 16% increase. He and his wife attended all of those boundary meetings and came away disgusted. The school board chose to ignore their input and that of every one else at those meetings. They wanted to control your thoughts before hand and when that failed they made the decision by themselves with out public input thus wasting all of the parents time spent in this process.

Even now the citizens are wanting, the leaders to control residential growth but no one is listening. Not the school board, not the city council.

Maybe the voters must send them another wake up call.
equal schools

I see in this community authority proposal that the city (builders) has included a statement of use of the money to make the ''old'' high school ''equal'' with the new high school. I thought that was the initial goal of the new high school design to make them equal as much as possible in the first place.
Football field?

Will that be $35 million for a new football stadium? Maybe an indoor swimming pool? All controlled by Lou Postage and the builders.
