The night before last night I went to bed in Pickerington.
Like so many nights before I thought all was well in this little berg.
My kids were happy in school, my wife was happy with our neighborhood, life was right.
I?’ve read the local newspapers and paid little attention as there really is little news that hasn?’t already happen already when these papers only come out on a weekly basis.
The tone of the articles made me content in the belief that all was well as I had imagined. The letters had, on the other hand, had the usual blaming and finger pointing at some group named PATA. I usually pay little attention to such nonsense; however I had just gotten a PATA Newsletter on my mailbox. Rather than ignore it, I chose to read what they said and see for myself. The content of this Newsletter proved that my city representatives hadn?’t done one thing to slow down growth. They actually have been the cause to increase it. It showed just how much influence this BIA has exerted upon us here. There was the relationship of how the schools actually take chump change from the developers and maintain a posture of not speaking out against the damages that this growth rate will do to them. This Newsletter pointed out the advantages of a moratorium and of a recall. There was a piece to show that the Mayor?’s Community Authority and also the Recreation Land at Hickory Lakes was nothing more than smoke and mirrors.
I went to work today and paid more attention to the traffic that has been growing. I paid attention to the home and apartment construction going on. I paid attention to the type of town we have become.
I don?’t like what I?’m now seeing, and should have seen all along. I stopped today and mail a small check to these PATA people. It?’s worth it to get the truth.
I?’ll sleep better when I can believe that we are no longer under the influences of special interest that don?’t really care about my family and me.
