In keeping with Brians' message to focus on issues and not on the conduct of our elected officials, I want to make sure everyone saw the outstanding letter to the editor in the Southeast Messenger today.
It is entitled Pickeirngton schools' kindergarten schedule change is a bad idea!
It was very factual. The concerns from three citizens were:
1. Lack of Structure
2. Idea Failed Before
3. Loss of Academic Time
4. Impact on Lunchroom Facility
5. Effectiveness
According to the three authors, 'studies have proven that full day, every other day is the least effective academic program for kindergarten.'
The letter also states 'cost savings for this is still unknown. There have been many figures thrown around anywhere from $80,000 to $240,000.'
Well, I'm sure that the PATA webmaster III can quickly obtain accurate cost savings from this and post it right on the PATA homepages. Just how much are we saving to go to all day, every other day kindergarten?
