I wasn't able to make the meeting last night.

Can we get a recap of what was discussed ??

Talked about the studies that have been done about full day kindergarten and how that is better academically but how the studies on alternate day kindergarten have gotten mixed reviews.

Talked about the costs associated with 1/2 kindergarten and what is the base savings but that doesn't take into account lunches.

Also talked about the actual loss of education time because of this schedule vs a 1/2 day schedule. Mandated 15 minute breaks, how some kids will fall asleep during this time, time to get back into groove of teaching, etc.

My mother-in-law drove kindgarten kids at a school that did alternate day kindergarten and she said it was a complete nightmare. Kids constantly were trying to get on the bus on the wrong days, some made it to school and then had to be bussed back home and bus drivers had to learn what kids went on what day because of the confusion associated with this schedule. One of the kindergarten teachers at this school stated that she taught in the morning and babysat in the afternoon. Kids weren't responsive, tired and couldn't effectively be taught.

Also talked about how next year the 4th grade profeciencies will now be in the 3rd grade and how we can't afford to have kids miss out on this years academics. And also how this is an ACADEMIC cut.

What really came out of it was to make a presence at the next board mtg. Please come if you can.
