Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

What about me?

Posted in: PATA
Last night the Pickerington School Board started the process to place yet another operating levy on the August ballot.

In addition the board president annouced that they had received a $600,000 donation and according to the Dispatch the money is coming from the builders.

I heard many talk last night about our students not having anything to do without sports and if the board didn't restore sports we will have students drinking themselves to death and using drugs. They tried to paint the picture of us all stepping over the drunken students because they had nothing to do. Hog Wash!

The board didn't consider the cutting of busing nor did they try to restore it. Just how will those High School students get to school? We have a new school on Refugee road with no sidewalks and many if High school are not old enough to have a driver's lisense. Do we lower the speed limit down to 20 like the city fixes their traffic problems? Where will the first student die in the coming year? Bored because of no sports and ODs or getting picked off on Refugee road walking to school?

We should all be thankful to the BIA for the choices they have given our community and HEA!! BIA.

$600,000 Bribe

Isn?’t nice that our elected leaders (PLSD Board) now have turned the corner and they now publicly accept brides. I understand from the Dispatch this morning that the builders gave a donation of $600,000 for extra curricular activities. However 90% of that money goes to the jocks. Thursday they will meet to vote on accepting the bride to save the sports programs and cut the academics.

The board said when they placed this 7.9 mil levy on the ballot that they would need to make all of these cuts. Now the levy failed and they aren?’t cutting sports like they said they would. We are bought and sold by the BIA and their agents. The athletic boosters accept money form the BIA, the city accepts money from the BIA and now the PLSD board is accepting money from the BIA and we wonder why it is never have enough to fund our real costs of services.

Strings or No Strings??

If the money comes with no strings I don't see an issue with accepting it.

The BIA recognizes that a strong school district is going to help them & if they want to fund sports in the short term - I don't think that's bad. They are part of the long & short term problems we face - let them be part of the funding solution.

The Community needs to take responsibility for the growth that is leading to the Operating Problems the schools are facing. Controlling growth will allow us to fund schools at a level where we can offer an education & extra curriculars. Personally, I'd like to see the property tax I pay go to fund both & moved to a school district expecting to receive both.

My hope would be that we have Mr. Shaver's Ordinance in the short term to slow housing permits beginning in June & Mr. Hackworth's Ordinance in the Fall to control growth in the long term until a Comprehensive Plan can be developed.
