Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

I'm passing on a Sage opinion

Posted in: PATA
Pay attention. It was first Gray, then Hughes. It's now Postage. Postage and Monhollen are old buddies. Remember what Wes said during his campaign? He said that growth was not hurting the schools! Sanders went on to agree, stating that if growth was hurting the schools we wouldn't continue to get perfect scores on the state report card. The majority of elected officials in Pickerington -- city, Violet and PLSD are good ole' Pick people. Unless you change them all - nothing changes. I had never voted NO on a school levy until moving to Pickerington. Here, the policy is clearly to threaten the parents through their students until a levy passes, and then go about business as usual. No lessons learned. Many of the recent state auditors proposals were discussed in the past. We need to control 'people' cost yet we have a board president with immediate family benefiting from higher salaries, improved fringes and supplemental contracts! We have some of the best athletic facilities in the state and yet we have elementary students who will not see an inside classroom until middle school!! Without significant changes in all elected governing bodies Pickerington will continue to profit developers, large land owners and certain special interest groups that can deliver votes. You know how you spot D. Berry development - look for the new traffic light. Many of our elected officials (not all obviously) are either not very bright or --------you fill in the blank. In order to accomplish long term good in our community - Violet Township (Yes Virginia, there is a Violet Township) - Canal - Liberty - Columbus (all parts of our school district) we must defeat levies and work to remove the majority of office holders. If the August school levy passes the school board will get back in bed with the city on the ''wonderful'' community authority -- which will not work as proposed but will lead to higher taxes for operations -- and not institute any long term improvements. We must wait until November, pass a levy, remove council members, the mayor, and at least two school board members. At that point, we can better determine whether a recall of the remaining school board members, city council members, and township trustees could possibly be in order!

Opinions Count

Dear Sage,

I see you want to preach to the choir. Most that log on here, with the exception one, get it. I hope you feel better now that you had a chance to vent. It is time to do more than vent. It is time that good decent candidates stand up and take charge. It is time that we all march forward and replace those that are currently in office. Clearly much of what you say is true, but if we just ?“TALK?” then we will never get any where. It is time for candidates to step forward.

Sage, there is a recall effort going on right now. Bruce Rookstool has ask and begged for people to help with this effort. Call him and get a recall petition and hit the streets. Tell the people of this city what you just told the PATA web people. Most people will be friendly and they will either sign your petition or they will not. You never know until you ask.

If you have any expertise in being a candidate for School Board, City Council, and or Township Trustee, then it is your duty to step forward. If you are not prepared today then start getting prepared for 2005. The only reason these people dominate our leadership positions here in Pickerington is that no one challenged them in the past. We must challenge EVERY INCUMBENT.

If you don?’t know where to start please contact one of the many people that have left their contact information on their postings. I am sure they can find someone to help you. There is grass roots support out here for your views, take advantage of it. It is time we re-take Pickerington. It is strange that I have meet many people in my short stay here in Pickerington and most are not from central Ohio. Yet those in charge have lived here for generations. Is it possible that those of us that just moved in need to take charge because those ancestral leaders have personal gains in their motives? Some do for sure.
Old Guard

I agree with you until you start condemning the ''old folks'' because of their vested interests. There are many of the old folks who have put their interests on the line, even though they have land in the area, and have taken it on the chin time after time for the ''new folk''. May be the old folks are just tired of circulating petitions. The old folks also know how vindictive the Council and Manager can be, having been the victims. Lets go after at least those council members who are not up for election so we are sure that when new council members are elected this November there are enough votes to rid Pickerinton of Ms. Bushman.
''Old Guard'' - additional meaning

Maybe, ?“Old Guard?” the previous posters only focusing on the ?“Over the Hill?” gang that is still in office. There are clearly many of the long of tooth and grey of hair that are wise to the scoundrels in office.

Some of these current ?“veteran?” office holders that are still hanging on to the aura of power, while giving away this community?’s soul to outside developers are the villains. They have messaged the less ?“Gray?” into position and have placed all of us ?– young and old ?– at the whim of people that don?’t give a darn about us.
