Please take a look at the Violet Township Website. There is information regarding a new exit off of Rt. 33. The location of this exit could be critical to open some of the last Commercial Land available in the PLSD. This decision will be made in the next few months & will have a lasting effect on our community & school district.

Please consider writing a letter to support our Trustee's.

There is also an informational meeting on June 26th from 4-8pm at Peace United Methodist Church at the corner of Diley & Long Rds. More info is in the Calendar Section of this website.

Below is a form letter available in word if you want just let me know.

RE: US 33 interchange site

Dear Ms. Brown,

As a resident of Pickerington and/or Violet Township, and Fairfield County, I am concerned about the future commercial development in our area. A strong commercial tax base is a must for the continuation of our excellent school district. To this end, I urge you to consider the Allen Rd site for the next US 33 interchange instead of Pickerington Road.

The Allen Rd. site offers more potential for commercial development with less disruption of established residential areas. The Allen Rd. site is also more equitable in distance from the Hill-Diley Rd. exchange. Please consider the Allen Rd. site for the next US 33 interchange.

Yours truly,

Wrong ODOT Person, Lisa

Lisa,

I would not recommend letters be sent directly to Cindy Brown, the ODOT District 5 Spokesperson. Ms. Brown is not in a decision-making capacity. Copies of letters to Ms. Brown would be appropriate to keep her informed.

I would recommend letters be sent directly to the District Deputy Director, Chris Engle. Chris is very assessible and a fine public servant. His address is:

Chris Engle, District 5 Deputy Director
Ohio Department of Transportation
9600 Jacksontown Rd SE
Jacksontown, OH 43030

RE: US 33 interchange site

In addition, I would recommend copies of the letter to be sent to Larry Sutherland, a very high ranking ODOT official who has for many years lived in Summerfield and has been very active with the Township Trustees in zoning. Larry's address is:

Larry Sutherland, P.E. Deputy Director
Office of Roadway Engineering
Ohio Department of Transportation
1980 West Broad Street,
Columbus, OH 43223

Both Larry and the former district deputy director were ideal to work with when we sought the interchange at Taylor Road coming into the Township off of I-70. The ODOT District 5 went to bat for us in Washington to get them to waive the requirements for an interchange.

I have worked with Chris and the district office to help address the problem at Ault and SR 204 for the new schools.

In addition, there are several other Pickerington residents that were in ranking ODOT positions or still are. Bob Blair, the former Village of Pickerington City Manager, is extremely knowledgable of the interworkings of ODOT. Under Bob's brief 2 year leadership here, he plotted outstanding subdivisions like Melrose and brought into quality commercial developments like Brookside commercial plaza. He would be an tremendous resource to help with ODOT and commercial developers, and Blair lives here in Pickerington.

Violet Twp verification

Mark -

I think Bill Yaple needs to verify what you've posted.

We have been working directly with the Trustee's in order to support their efforts. They approved the letter before it was sent to anyone.

I've forwarded your comments to Bill Yaple & will post any correction that may be needed.

Thanks,

Check with Terry Dunlap, Lisa

Lisa,

With all due respect to Bill, I believe if you check Terry Dunlap, he will quickly verify the information I posted. A call this evening to Terry would put the matter to rest.

Terry has worked with Bob Blair and Larry Sutherland and will know them well. In fact, Terry attended a meeting three years ago at the Pickerington Library when Larry Sutherland spoke about the S.R. 33 interchange.

I don't want anyone to look foolish to write to a PR person about a decision on an interchange.

In addition, you may want to contact our State Representative regarding contact verification within the Ohio Department of Transportation. Tim will be far more knowledgeable about the workings of state government than Bill is. That's what we elect him to do.
