Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

Meeting with Service Committee

Posted in: PATA
The Traffic Committee of CommUNITY 1st met with Pickerington's Service Committee to discuss a unified traffic study that would include ODOT, MORPC, Pickerington, Violet Township, Columbus, Pataskala, Fairfield County, Liberty Township and possibly Buckeye Lake. This study would evaluate current traffic patterns/congestion in the area, and make proposals on how to manage future traffic, anticipating growth.

Mr. Parker promised to get some discussion going between Mrs. Bushman and the staff to see if they were interested in the traffic study. He seemed concerned about who would have the most input on the steering committee of the study. He also suggested CommUNITY 1st have a representative on the steering committee. Mr. Parker will be contacted before the next CommUNITY 1st meeting to see if there has been any progress on the issue.

We also had some good discussion with Mr. Shaver and he seems open minded to the idea of a regional approach for the traffic study.

We've been invited back to the next meeting on July 17th, and we will likely be on the agenda. These meetings are public and anyone is allowed to attend.

We also met with Mr. Yaple of Violet Township several weeks ago and he seemed interested, but admitted that funding any improvements identified by the study may be difficult.

We plan on meeting with all local parties to evaluate interest and funding ability. Once we secure verbal commitments to work regionally, we will approach ODOT and MORPC to present our plan.

Upcoming events:

Public meeting for comments on Rt 33 interchange on the 26th at Peace United Methodist Church from 4 to 8 pm.

The CommUNITY 1st meeting will be held Sunday night June 29 at 7:00pm at the Violet Township offices.

There will be a meeting to review the plans for the Diley road widening project. July 10 is the tentative date.
