Thank you to everyone who attended the Park Place Community Meeting last night.

20-30 residents attended the meeting, which was a good turnout considering Columbus decided to delay the Hines Road closure until next year.

Mayor Postage and Councilman Bill Wright showed up to give their support, along with Jeff Krauss, Pickerington's PR Representative. Pickerington posted the meeting on its website, and Park Place residents are grateful for the attention the city has shown during this stressful time. The city has written a letter to Mayor Coleman highlighting the need for the two municipalities to work together.

Ted Hackworth attended to show his support, and Peggy McElroy, a Republican running for Columbus City Council, stayed afterward to instruct us on how to form a neighborhood group that will be able to work with the city to get things done. She has worked with the Northwest Civic Association for 17 years, and is very pro-neighborhood. Thank you Ted and Peggy!

The three local papers; This Week in Pickerington, the Pickerington Times-Sun and The Southeast Messenger all showed up to report on the meeting.

Residents expressed frustration about the Tussing Road bridge, the intersection of Hines and Refugee, the fact that Tussing Road is still only two lanes, and the fact that businesses in the area are dying and moving out. There's also a semi-truck cab that is parked on one of the streets, which apparently is a Columbus City Code violation.

The idea of a Park Place Civic Association was raised, and my initial thought is to have an Alliance or Coalition that would include all homes and businesses off of Tussing Road, Hines Road, Refugee Road from the railroad tracks to Gender Road, and Gender Road to Brice Road to I-70. I have the articles of incorporation for the Northwest Civic Association that I will use as a guideline for our group.

I believe the businesses along Brice will want to join, because many of them are dying and Columbus isn't paying any attention. Residents will want to join because we're tired of being excluded from the city, and then have them pull something sneaky like closing Hines Road with only a weekend notice.

Thanks again for all the support for little Park Place on the far east side of Columbus!
