ODE Web site results back up
ODE web site results are now readable, many were receiving error messages on their computers when the PDF format reports attempted to load earlier in the week.
Each individual school now receives a rating of Excellent, Effective, Continuous Improvement, academic watch etc. In PLSD, Fairfield, Violet, Harmon and the High School all received Excellent. Heritage, Pickerington and Diley received Effective, Tussing received Continuous Improvement.
The problem areas appear to be Math and Science in all schools that need improvement. Additionally, the Tussing students need work on the citizenship portion of the test.
These results should not suprise anyone as the profile and composition of the district has changed greatly over the last few years. Many students now move into the district from less rigorous curricula in their old schools. There are larger numbers of students who may be economically disadvantaged to some extent and even some for whom English is a second language. This does hurt their chances to pass the tests, with less than intensive intervention. The ability of the district to provide intervention to those who may be borderline is shrinking as the economic situation tightens and choices have to be made of who to help intensively. I believe many who would benefit from intervention may not be receiving it, depending on where they attend school. In some schools the need for intervention may be so great that only those who really need it big time get the help because of their sheer numbers. In other schools, where the intervention needs are less, those who are borderline are likely to get the help they need. I all boils down to sheer numbers... both money wise and staff wise. I think it is a credit to our teachers that they were able to keep the scores high for as long as they did.
