why pick on shaver
Why suddenly all the postings critical of David Shaver and the fact that he owns a new house, or has worked with builders as their legal representative? Just because someone advocates slower growth doesn't mean he doesn't want to live in a house, or have a business. I doubt that David Shaver has any ill feelings towards these builders...all they are doing is what they are suppose to do...trying to maximize their profits for their shareholders. It's the normal control mechanism, including the city administration, council, and zoning that are not functional around here. In a ''functional'' community, these groups act to balance the legitimate profit motive of the landowners and builders with the desires, needs and welfare of the community. Regardless of the fact that he has a new house, and whether or not his clients include builders or other, David Shaver consistently stands up and says ''no'' to these folks when it is in this communities interest to do so...usually alone. Despite the fact that all of the groups I noted above are supposed to function to represent the interests of the majority, and despite the fact that they all well know what the majority wants, only David Shaver would stand and vote with this community. For that, every possible attempt has been made to discredit him...all in the interest of maintaining control for a few people who aren't done making money at expense. I don't really care if David Shaver has lunch at BIA headquarters every day before playing a round of golf with Daryl Barry...if he steps up and represents my interests of the majority when it's time to vote, then he not only a rare exception here in Pickerington but he's alright by me. Now if my leanings were more sympathetic to those who support rapid residential growth (lets just call them the ''minority'' of people here) then I might not see it this way. When it seemed like I might lose, I might consider something like just posting a bunch of irrelevant negatives on some website in the hope of damaging Shaver's chances. Or heck, maybe I would just add a couple of more people to the ballot at the last minute...some idea that was! |
