Four (4) years ago two people accused of being complete lunatics wrote ranting letters the editor screaming bloody murder that if pro-growth advocates were re-elected the sky would fall and the city would lay in ruins. One of these two even went so far as to stand on the corner of 256 and Refugee passing out voter guides and campaign literature.
End result? Pro-growth advocates were re-elected/elected. Although there was a MAJOR upset in the V.T. trustee race. Bev Mc Millen sort of bailed out at the last minute to seal the mayoral race for Randy Hughes, but the fate of Pickerington was decided. Pickerington would continue to aggressively pursue rapid high-density residential development under the command of Joyce Bushman. And they did, offering free water & sewer taps and other ?“goodies?” to condo and homebuilders. Let us not forget contract zoning, a Joyce Bushman specialty, which took the public (YOU) right out of the picture when it came to converting hundreds of acres of farmland to endless seas of rooftops.
I think during those days many folks didn?’t realize how a few political insiders could wreak havoc on an entire community. Not many folks were paying attention and all seemed well.
My, my how things change in 4 years.
We?’re we right? No, the sky didn?’t fall, but our quality of life has. Not to mention our ever- increasing tax burden. For city residents, your debt has climbed to $36M, if you include the sewer expansion. That?’s $3,600 for every man, woman and child in Pickerington. Add that to the $74 school complex debt. Can you afford to continue to grow? I have read of problems selling existing homes and the influx of 550 school kids, too. More problems, more headaches.
Folks, this time the sky will fall, and city will lay in ruins if just one pro-growth advocate squeaks in.
Vote for local government for the people, by the people. Vote for Hackworth, Riggs, Wisniewskie, Shaver and Reade.
You won?’t have to worry about your money (tax money) being used to buy the finest legal expert in election law against you, throwing out every attempt to real in an out-of-0control city government. And you won?’t have to worry about Joyce Bushman. She?’ll be gone. And she is perhaps the greatest enemy to our pursuit of life, liberty and happiness there is.
