Part of Pickerington Politics
Stealing or destroying the campaign signs of opponents is old hat in Pickerington politics.
When I last ran for school board, umpteen years ago, I had to do regular sign patrols, to replace signs that had been unplaced, and had to hold a significant portion of the signs I had ordered in reserve. I once found a Postage sign on one of my wires.
I estimated, at the time, that at least 100 of the 250 signs I put out had been stolen. At one point during the campaign, almost all of my signs were down.
Everyone has their suspects (I certainly had mine), but no one knows for sure who the culprits are. I never caught anyone in the act. Its a shame that we have such people in our midst.
I hope this election leads to a drastic reduction of such misconduct in the future. I think there is a good chance that it will. This could be the last gasp of certain elements around here.
