Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

Another Violet Festival is upon us. Another same old ?– same old. We need an infusion of new blood into the Violet Festival Board. We need planners and risk takers. Can?’t we get some new volunteers who will insist we get better rides for the kids, food venders for all and something for teens and adults?

Rather than have the teens stand en masse making it hard to get around them, can?’t they be offered a venue catered to them? Perhaps a tent off-site for them to go to a dance or something?

Why aren?’t we using Sycamore Park for this event? It is much bigger.

Come on, can?’t the Violet Festival for once be more than ramshackle expensive rides for kids, a place for teens to gather and stand and do nothing else, terrible food vendors, the every third year or so decent performer and the ever present beer tent?

Is this our image? Is this what we want people to think of for the Violet Festival and Pickerington? Loitering teens, rusty old rides and beer, beer, beer?

Come on Mayor and Council. Have the signature festival of our great city get some class for a change.

Hey Judy!!

Funny thing now that you brought this up. The information I had was that the new city manager would bring some class to the city. I heard she had some apparent involvement with fine arts, historic restoration and culture that we were sorely lacking in. Well, you?’ve been here over a year. Where is some class, elegance and culture? Hopefully moving the beer tent to accommodate more chug-a-luggers like our former mayor isn?’t your idea of upscaling!

Maybe a little mixed up.

Mayor Gray always said that Ms. Bushman was very talented in that area and would bring a great street fair to Pickerington. He had gone to the Pataskala or Utica street fair and thought that was great there and wanted one for Pickerington. Had not heard that about Ms. Gilleland.

No reason to visit

There has never been, in the history of the Violet Festival, any real reason to visit this festival. It has never been anything more than a glorified street carny with a large beer tent.

They would be more honest if it was changed to the Pickerington BeerFest.

And just where ARE the violets that one might expect to see at a Violet Festival? After all, aren't we the self-proclaimed Violet Capital of Something-or-Other?

The upcoming Jazz and Rib Fest is a better bargain than the Violet festival.
