Jack's Got it Right
I think the PLSD and the school board have yet to achieve the level of fiscal responsibility that I would like to see, and I think that the recent report of Jack's facilities committee is deeply flawed. I also agree that we are just beginning to take hold of our future, and impose some serious controls on residential growth.
But Jack has got it right. The only solution to our community's problems is for all of us to take ownership of them. The school board is not some alien entity -- it is comprised of our elected representatives. If we do not like its decisions, we can change its composition. Instead of complaining about it, critics need to step forward and run for school board.
As I have said before, this community can manage and control residential growth without destroying our schools or taking other measures that will make this community miserable for all of us. Our new city government, in my opinion, has made a very good start in this direction. We have a chance this fall to accelerate the pace by removing the last three holdovers from the old order from office. Anyone who is still impatient needs to step up and run for office.
Its time for the township and the city to combine in a single unit of government. The current structure allows builders and developers to pit us against each other. We need to unite, to work together. And we need to compromise.
I just wish that Jack would run for office himself. There is someone that I could support.
