Here is a good illustration of why there is so much mis-trust in our school district. Our test indicators fell this year. That is less than one percentage point. Listen to the quotes of Lisa Reade in defending the drop in scores.
Pickerington Excellent in 2004/ Effective in 2005
?· Pickerington: 21 indicators met; performance index of 99.7
LISA READE SAID,
''Pickerington was designated effective in 2001 - the only other time the district wasn't rated excellent - since the rankings began in 2000. Pickerington is the county's largest district with more than 9,000 students. The district has been grappling with crowded schools. Voters twice rejected bond issues in the past 10 months. There are about 700 students in the district attending classes in modular classrooms outside of various buildings in the district.
School board member Lisa Reade expects the enrollment to go to more than 10,000 students this year. But she doesn't think the crowded classes were the reason for the drop in designation. Reade attributed the drop to new students moving into the district and having to catch up with the other students academically. Pickerington just missed reaching the indicator for eighth-grade math achievement, with 74 percent of the students testing proficient.
''I don't think it's indicative the district is starting to slide,'' Reade said. ''Obviously, we are not satisfied our levels have dropped. We're going to look at what we need to do to improve it. The mobility rate growing (has more of an impact) on the test scores than the crowded classrooms.''
LISA WHAT IS THE MOBILITY RATE?
Here again Lisa is trying to pad the numbers for the school bond issue. She says we will have over 10,000 students this year. Then who is right the ''EXPERTS'' the FRC and that the board hired which say we currently have 9,190 total students and they expect 477 new students this year. The school experts say we will have 9,667 total students this year. Then in the FRC report they claim only 374 new students will be attending this year. Each time I hear a new figure of projected enrollment it changes. How can anyone plan with figures that are jumping all over the place?
She also wants to blame the drop in test scores on the new students. Now how does she know where these new students live? Does our board members have access to the individual students by NAME and their test scores. I think that you almost need to have that private information before making that kind of a general statement. Is she saying we have dummies moving here? Maybe we need an entrance test before buying or renting in Pickerington.
