A new thread (Charter)

I believe you are hinting at seating a charter review committee. I will advise caution in that endeavor. As is repeatedly outlined in these anonymous postings, we have to wait to see if we have returned to the governments we had before 2003. We have new names and faces but may still have the same old motives. Of course we will not see the rampant annexation and rezoning we saw in the past until this new council is approached to do so. Quite simply, the initiative to pursue this course is no longer there because the intelligence is no longer there, at least in the apparent majority. Also, hopefully you read the papers and realize what is happening in the housing industry. The developers cannot build on speculation like before. Don?’t take credit for a change you had nothing to do with. Why aren?’t you busy rezoning all the R-4 down Diley that we got through emergency? It is not being developed. Was O?’Brien the only one who had the gumption to dare ask if we can or demand that we rezone it?

Now before you continue to cast aspersion on what you term corrupt bunches of the past, look around you at the present and future. Look at how some of these ?“good guys?” are exercising their political influence and positions to obtain campaign contributions. The bunch from the past may have returned in sheep?’s clothing. Stop casting stones in your glass house.
What do you propose with your vigilance? Be specific. Set aside for a moment you dreams of the future in future elections. What can we do now with those we have now? You have a guy who abstained, what, 88 times last year before the papers quit counting and he had numerous ethics charges filed against him. He now has a clean 4 year run ahead of him. What do you propose we do about him? We have 2-3 councilmen who will be spending all their time and efforts towards campaigns outside the city. Their attention will be divided. Won?’t it be easy for the foxes in the faire fields to conquer during the division? Speaking of foxes in the fair fields, don?’t we have some highly partisan issues and offices to deal with in the next few months? Don?’t many to all of them involve city politicians? If things get bas for the good guys, it opens the city to the foxes, gray wolves and berry pickers and most dangerously, ladies hiding in the bushes.

I hope you are right about picking up the pace. I like that you are an optimist. Let?’s just hope the pace doesn?’t reach a point that you are run over by it. I expect changes on council but I believe you lost the momentum of progress.
Well I am glad you have ideas on closing what you perceive to be loopholes. I just hope you have the grit to see them through. Yada, yada, yada on the NO NEW PLATS speech. You have made these comments before and I don?’t think you should be taking credit for something that occurred naturally.
Good luck on your initiatives if you run them. Just be sure to dot the I?’s and cross the t?’s this time.

it opens the city to the foxes, gray wolves and berry pickers and most dangerously, ladies hiding in the bushes.
