PLSD
Can't forget the biggest spender of all - the schools.
First and foremost -- the administrative overhead is beyond belief. Corporations have eliminated entire levels of management and consolidated operations to increase productivity. The bloat in the past ten years to add management levels for everything under the sun needs a complete and total overhaul.
A needed step in that process is for the board to publish the actual cost to operate each school, something they have not provided to date. Breakdown the expenses associated with each level of management from the principal on down. I suspect folks will be amazed at the fat in the middle.
While we're on that tack -- the board should post on the PLSD website the complete breakdown of the annual budget for the past five years. Complete Excel files showing all income and disbursements. There are very smart accountants and business folks in this district that, if given the opportunity, could identify substantial savings if the information was available to them. If we wait for the district folks with a bias to maintain the status quo to look at cutbacks it will never happen. And the board certaintly hasn't shown the interest.
