Internet Access and Prospect

Posted in: Prospect New Town
Adesta pulled out

Adesta has pulled out of Longmont due
to financial problems.
I called them just today...and
they indicated that they are awaiting
funding.
The details were not known to the callee.
Perhaps we should offer to write letters to the potential investors with words of encouragment.
High-speed Internet Access

Well, it does not look like we have any options for high-speed internet access in Prospect.
This is very unfortunate since I know there is a large demand.
It is possible that we could get a T1 pulled in here as split the cost between users. About a year ago I looked into it and if I remember right it would cost about 1200/month...if we don't consider setup cost. Divided 10 ways this is roughly equivalent to what I am paying for ISDN or what corporate DSL would cost. Naturally the cost is reduced by the number of users.
Before I begin spending much time looking into this, I was wondering if anyone has already done so?
Is there a strong demand?
Is this something that the home-owners association or Kiki would reimburse?
What is everyone willing to pay per month?
Do we have the skills in our 'hood to manage the routers and servers by ourselves?
Is anyone interested in helping out?

Interesting Idea

Scott,

That's a very interesting idea. I'd be interested in, at the very least, discussing what our options might be.

I talked to the network administrators at my company, and they pointed me in the direction of some possibilities about setting the network from the T1 to houses, but I obviously haven't had time to see if the cost of any of these options is something we could manage.

I think one of the largest hurdles would the physical wiring to the homes that wanted access. Unless there is some way to do this in an unsightly manner, the only other option I know of is a wireless network - which is certainly an appealing possibility.
