Dear Neighbors,
The last two Parkwood Newsletters announced that the Board of Directors will begin planning a club house. I was shocked. I would like to share my disapproval with you, my neighbors, in an effort to gage if I am alone in my sentiment.

Almost a decade ago, the residents of Parkwood elected to have a clubhouse built before building a pavilion. Unfortunately, those wishes were ignored and the pavilion was built a few years ago. I hope that the wishes of the neighborhood will be honored and a clubhouse will eventually be built. However, I feel strongly that our current facilities should be in good repair and a system of maintaining them in motion before we contract for any more capital improvements.

I have a list of several things that I should be accomplished before a clubhouse is built and I suspect that the residents of this neighborhood could add a few more things to the list. The items range from minor to very expensive, none the less, I feel each of them should be completed before any funds are spent on additional capital improvements. The items of concern are as follows:

1.The playground needs 10 inches of fresh mulch and a commitment to resupply the mulch yearly.
2.The playground tables need repair or replacement.
3.The playground equipment needs cleaning.
4.The trail needs new asphalt around the bend at the end farthest from the playground.
5.The trail fence needs repair and replacement in several places primarily around the bend.
6.The trail needs a thorough cleanup.
7.The obstacle course needs to be repaired or removed.
8.The walkway from the parking lot to the pavilion needs to be repaired and completed.
9.A footbridge over the drainage between the parking lot and the pavilion needs to be installed.
10.Handicapped ramps need to be installed on the pavilion at both sidewalks leading to it.

It is irresponsible for any individual or organization to spend money on new things when it has shown little or no ability to care for the things is already has.

Respectfully,
Jo Ann Miller

We Are Not Ready for Clubhouse

I agree wholeheartedly with your remarks. My husband and I frequently use the jogging trail and are extremely disappointed with the neglect of this asset over the years. Nothing is done to maintain what could be a lovely feature of our neighborhood. Also, our entrance looks rundown and shabby as landscaping has been curtailed for well over a year. An entrance gives an important first impression of a sub-division and ours speaks poorly of our community. We have a lot to accomplish before considering the construction of a club house.
Maintain the Build

Totally agree with Jo Ann. We need to maintain and repair what we have in place before trying to add new facilities. Don't believe the jogging tail had any major renovation or upgrades in over 10 years other than a few light poles.
