With downtown Pawtucket accomplishing a slow recovery, the possibly worst city blight is the Broadway neighborhood. The street resembles parts of New York City with rows of empty, barricaded buildings that were formerly strip shopping centers with century old housing bordering on substandard. Since the 1950's, Broadway always had the rough neighborhood reputation. However, with the possibility of the closing of two Broadway area churches, the social anchors of this ''Weed and Seed'' neighborhood will be removed. Broadway is facing a depressing future with nowhere to shop, no youth centers, no sense of community and an area of great need of urban growth and artist investment.

Broadway has some issues.

This is Luke previous President of the PVBA & PVNA. Owner of Lukes Music store at 393 Broadway, and landlord.I have operated a business on broadway since 1979, lived on Broadway from 1986-1990 and own property and rent on broadway. It is very depressing to hear this info. I to agree that Broadway has many properties for rent & for sale. Many family buusineses have either reitred ,sold out or moved on. I'm hoping to do the same. The people have a voice and if they unit can make things happen, so I urge all to attend the next PVNA meeting, keep your property clean and rented, and get involved. You can make a difference.

Artists on Broadway may help

Artists on Broadway may help. There are a plentiful supply of 100 year old apartment buildings and quaint storefronts. What is the old Broadway fire station being used for?
