The city has:
?ˆ™ Ordered all Pawtucket businesses closed as of 8 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28 until further notice after the storm passes.?ˆ™ Moved up a previous order so a citywide parking ban will now take effect Saturday at 12 o’clock midnight.
Vehicles must be moved off all public streets subject to towing and fines. Go to www.pawtucketri.com or www.pawtucketpolice.com for a list of public lots available for offstreet parking.?ˆ™ Closed all park and recreation facilities as of 3 p.m. Saturday until further notice.?ˆ™ Made sandbags and a sand pile available at the Department of Public Works highway garage, 250 Armistice Blvd. Residents must fill out a form and return the bags later. About 2,000 full or partially filled sandbags are available and residents can also fill up available empty bags from the sand pile.?ˆ™ Set up backup generators to assure continuous power at the Paul J. Wildenhain Animal Shelter in Slater Park.?ˆ™ Deployed a third Rescue vehicle and secured other emergency backups for a total of six vehicles, if necessary.?ˆ™ Worked with National Grid to help stage an initial three repair vehicles so crews can respond as soon as possible to utility problems.?ˆ™ Delayed trash pickup one day, with the first pickup of the week now on Tuesday.
With downed trees and power lines and heavy rains expected, residents are cautioned to stay well clear of any downed wires and any puddles or metal objects such as wire mesh fences that could conduct electricity and cause injury.
Fire Chief William Sisson, acting Emergency Management Director, noted emergency response may be delayed or slowed by high winds, heavy rains, blowing debris and other storm-related hazards affecting safety of public safety personnel and the public.
Residents are asked to use texting and social media to maintain contact with friends and family and lighten the load on cell phone and other networks to reduce risk of system overloads.
