You're the Cure advocates like you have made a difference!  We recently told you about a misguided proposal in the FY09 supplemental budget that could derail our progress in the fight against tobacco and put Rhode Island youth at increased risk.  As you recall, the original proposal would have increased the state tax on cigarettes, but at the same time, it would have repealed the state's minimum pricing laws -- effectively wiping out the public health benefit of the tax increase and allowing tobacco manufacturers to flood our communities with cheap cigarettes.   

A revised proposal approved by the House Finance Committee last Friday maintains the state's minimum pricing laws AND increases Rhode Island's cigarette tax by $1.00 per pack.  This important legislation will be considered on the House floor this Wednesday.
