New Lanes?

Shame on you Judy

I just received the current issue of Inside Willo. Perhaps you should read the front page article (and secondary article on page 13) addressing the lanes on 3rd and 5th. It seems that you are definately in the minority on this issue. I have read the on going discussions and I fully agree with both John and Mark. I feel that both of these neighbors of ours are both passionate and emotional regarding this issue (as you stated in John's response). Good for you John. You should feel emotional about the neighborhood in which you live. I have had no problems adjusting to these lane changes, as have none of my visitors.

If you are not passionate and emotional about the neighborhood in which you live, perhaps you should relocate to one where you will care about the overall safety of your neighbors and not the convenience of your driving habits.

New Lanes Worse Than Confusing

I agree with you completely. Besides being confusing, it appears we have created two of the world's longest parking lots, and created pleasant streets into ugly areas. Also, having figured out to put a right turn lane at McDowell (and 5th), couldn't they figure out to do the same at Thomas (and 3rd)?

Shame on You Samantha

Being in the majority on an issue does not make one right. Being passionate about an issue does not make one right. And telling people they should move does not make one right. Judy raises good questions ... ones that should have been but never were answered before the streets were re-painted in such a way that many motorists legitimately confuse the bike lanes to be HOV lanes, mistakenly turn into traffic before there is a clean lane, and park in what must be now two of the longest parking lots in the world!!!

Shame on me...

The questions that Judy raises were addressed before the re-painting of the streets. Traffic speed and cars ending up in front yards were major reasons, along with pedestrian safety. Again, these are issues that were mentioned many times in "Inside Willo" over the last year; Judy and yourself would have been informed if you read the publications. It took many months of hard work to get the city to change the streets from 3 to 2 lanes...allowing more space for pedestrians, since there are no sidewalks to distance them from the speeding traffic. If the wider bike lanes confuse motorists, then they obviously are not paying attention to the markings in the lanes. These are most likely the same people who speed through our neighborhood for that quick cut-through and are exactly who the re-painted lanes are targeting.
