Does anyone know the history behind the name of Spook Hill?

Origin of ''Spook Hill''

Sam,
There are several stories about the origin of the name, but the most common one is this. In the 1930's and 1940's, there was a guest ranch called Red Mountain Ranch at the foot of the northern side of the hill. Guests were taken on trail rides all over the ''Desert Uplands'' area. However, whenever the rides went up on the hillside, the horses unaccountably became ''spooked'' and so the hill came to be called Spook Hill.
The hill is the large one in Las Sendas that is directly east of Power Road on the alignment of Thomas Road. Las Sendas now calls the hill ''Spirit Hill'', but the official name is still Spook Hill. On at least two occasions, the association has considered changing our name to ''Desert Uplands'' or something similar, but the vast majority of the residents prefer to keep Spook Hill in the association name because the hill is the predominent landmark in the area and the current name has become well recognized at the city and the county.
