Scottsdale School Board Meeting

Posted in: Arcadia Osborne
The school board and the bond committee met on August 5th at Tavan School. The committee was given a tour of parts of Tavan that could be remodeled at a price of approximately $2.4M. This amount would pay for replacing temporary buildings, replacing the air conditioning units, and working on the traffic problems in front of the school. Another alternative would be to build a new school structure at a price of approximately $8.5M. Poor plumbing and other serious health problems were discussed. Several parents reported that raw sewage has backed up during the year onto the playground. The classrooms are not adequate and do not meet any of the standards set by Scottsdale. Consultants discussed that a new school would last approx. 50 years, a renovated school about 20 years. The remodel would fall short of both of these time frames. However, when all discussion ended, the committee chose to waste $2.4M to get Tavan by for the short term. After a few retrofits like the one two years ago at Tavan, the money spent could pay for a new school.
