Becoming GREAT in 2008 begins with planning! The time to plan is NOW. For an organization to become effective and successful it must begin with a plan and it needs people to carry out its plan.
I have lived in this neighborhood for 30 years and I remember when "we" were just block clubs. Back then, people were involved with the block clubs. They were instrumental in having gates installed in the alleys, organizing alley clean-ups, posting Neighborhood Watch signs, had block captains who actually watched their streets.
The demographics of the neighborhood has changed. The area has become more diversed and new businesses have opened along Pico and Venice Boulevards respectively, the two border streets in our community. There are new home owners in the area and newly re-modeled homes as well as the construction of new homes.
Our community has changed right before our eyes but the concerns and challenges are still the same. How can we resolve the challenges of the community? Well, it begins with the people in the community. It's easy to discuss the challenges with your neighbors but to move from challenge to resolution it will take every member of this community to come together and make a difference.
I am asking you to challenge yourselves, become involved with Pico del Mar Neighborhood Association. Meetings are held once per month for one hour! Yes, we're all busy! We have families and time with family is crucial. Yes, we commute from home to our jobs daily, for some of us the commute is two hours round trip. But what enjoyment is fulfilled if you drive down your street and see old furniture on the sidewalk, or you can't find a place to park near your home or you're working to pay your rent or mortgage yet you don't know the person that lives across the street or you're only socializing with people who look like you. We're a diversed community and we need to celebrate the diverseness and resolve the challenges.
Therefore, we are forming committees to help facilitate meeting the needs of the community. If you're interested in any of the following committees, please contact Janelle Brown at 323-326-9533 or via email, 2bjanelle@sbcglobal.net
