Just off of SE 14th is a charming neighborhood complete with businesses, single family homes, mulit-family housing, and even a Buhdist Temple! We are a new association just recognized last September by the city of Des Moines. We are an association made up of people living in the neighborhood, run by people living in the nieghborhood. It is free to join our association. We meet quarterly on the first Tuesday of October and January at 6:30pm at the Evergreen Church of Christ - 2215 Evergreen Ave, and the first Tuesday of April and July at Pioneer Park's open shelter.
Our association is a couple of years old now and we have accomplished much with the help of a small membership. Our goals are to keep our homes and streets safe and clean and to see the south side prosper. We have many goals for 2010 and hope you will join us to see the changes that are taking place.
There are many plans for our area and more neighbors are needed to help the efforts move forward! We have visits at every meeting with the Des Moines Police Department and they let us know what is going on in and on our streets.
Working with the Planning & Zoning Commission and the City Council is one of the best ways to help clean up our streets and keep unwanted activities from our area. One example is an application to start a "Collection Company", otherwise known as a JUNK YARD! Our members went to meetings and filed protests and the application was denied! The last thing we need is more car lots or junk yards.
From the start of our association, there has been a policy of no dues or membership fees. We have applied for and received a couple of grants and members can donate at the meetings if they so desire. What we really want and need is more neighbors to get involved.
