Acid leak contained in SE Houston
Sunday, February 01, 2009 | 12:56 PM HOUSTON (KTRK) --
A chemical leak in southeast Houston forced officials to issue a shelter-in-place Sunday morning.
Fire officials tell us hydrochloric acid was leaking from a tank at Sharp Chemical on Dixie and Plainview. The tank holds 10,000 gallons with 2,250 gallons of acid leaking out. Hazmat crews pumped the acid into other containers to contain the situation.
The reported vapor cloud associated with the leak dissipated and the shelter-in-place was lifted in the noon hour.
No one was at the plant when the leak began. There were no reported injuries.
