Parents, we went up and observed the traffic and children crossing at Springwell & Riverway on their way to school this morning.
Although it isn't a law, the police officer we talked to said it was very advisable for children to get off of their bikes and walk them across the street for their own safety.
Please talk to your children regarding this matter. Let's keep Sage Creek safe for our children!

Blocking Side Streets

It would be nice if the cars on Riverway heading for Groves would stop short of the sidestreet intersections like Meandering and Spring Tide when traffic is stopped ...........but nooooooo they make it a point to speed up up to close the gap in front of them so nobody can enter Riverway.
Thanks

Crossing Guard at McCreary/River

Our child attends Tibbals and has to cross McCreary and Riverway going to and from Sage Creek and he certainly cannot do this alone. We were shocked to see NO Crossing Guard or working school zone lights on the first day of school. We immediately contacted Dr. Fuller and Chief Butters and were told the City of Wylie, not the ISD is responsible for hiring crossing guards. Chief Butters called and said there was supposed to be a crossing guard at McCreary and Riverway but they never showed up so they needed to hire one and would supply and officer during those times until a CG was hired but that has not happened. KUDOS to the Murphy Police for their professional courtesy and assistance in helping my 2nd grader cross a 4-Lane intersection AND directing traffic on a daily basis. Apparently one student's safety is not important enough to Wylie. Very dissappointing as a tax paying citizen of Wylie. I understand they also have other important issues to do, but hey, this is not Detroit or LA and I don't believe they are swamped taking on crack houses or other large metropolitan issues and can spare someone for one hour a day. Sorry, am venting as ALL students deserve to be safely led accross a busy 4-lane instersection - whether it is one child or 100!

school district

As an employee of a school district, it has always been my understanding that it was the school districts responsibility to provide the crossing guard...and when there wasn't one available, as part of her after school duty, the teacher stood at the corner and made sure the kids got across safely. Last school year, there was a sign placed out in front of our school saying ''crossing guard needed.'' It did not appear to be placed out there by the police department. But, by the sign being placed out there, one of the men from animal control offerend to volunteer his services until a crossing guard could be found. I would check with either Groves, or Tibbals and find out what's being done to get a crossing guard there. I would bet that the city isn't putting one there because the zoneing line for those two schools was put down the middle of McCreary...meaning kids wouldn't be crossing a major road to get to school.
