Billboard at NW 41 St and Powerline Rd

Posted in: Prospect Gardens Community Group

The City is considering entering into an agreement with the billboard vendor to trade three billboards on Commercial Blvd for a taller, larger, lighted billboard that would loom over Lloyd Estates Elementary and cast it's light onto the homes around it. It will likely be quite visible to the neighborhoods just west of I95 as well.   Please see the letter sent to the Commissioners and Mr. Stunson on March 30, 2010 in the Pages and Links section of this site.  It will likely be on the Agenda for the April 7, 2010 Commission meeting.

Please refer to the letter for details.

We have posted an updated billboard flyer in the Pages and Documents tab.  Most estimates for "stories" use the 10' standard.  This billboard is shown on the plans to be 75' tall, but that measurement is to the midline of the billboard, it is actually taller than 75'.  As you know, the City will not allow any building higher than 8 stories within our boundaries.

Wednesday, April 7 we appeared before the City Commission along with other concerned neighborhoods.  During the public comments section, several neighborhood representatives voiced their objections to the LED billboard proposed in Agenda item 11, at 849 NW 41 St.

We were pleased with the comments made by the Mayor, Vice Mayor, Commissioners and City Manager.  They asked important questions aimed directly at the issue, and left the door open for considering other options.  We are looking forward to meeting with representatives from CBS Outdoor.  We will post the meeting time and place here.

The issue at this point, is scheduled to be brought back before the Commission on May 19.  Stay tuned.  Please contact us at prospectgardens@aol.com for more information and to let us know your opinions and concerns.

Please remember that the City has spent considerable time and effort in trying to come to some agreement with CBS Outdoor.  Our cooperation and input is an important element in their decision, and we appreciate their consideration of our concerns.
