Was anybody else alarmed that the students remained on campus of KSS Elementary school after a bullet was found? There is constant bullying, Parents in confrontation with parents and now a bullet at school. The kids heard a rumor that a student had a real hand gun at school. Was it just that AIMS testing was going on? If it had been a non-testing day would they have reacted differently? Did they put our children at risk so they could finish testing? I'm concerned and puzzled. Any other thoughts?

Bullets
My kid isn't in school yet, so this is the first I have heard of this. I would hope that school officials at LEAST completed a full investigation, ie...who was supposed to have the gun, where did the bullet come from, would the bullet work in the gun the kid supposively had...etc... By Michael |

Bullet
No, I was not alarmed that they were not sent home. I know that if the school felt a real threat then yes they would've taken the measures to make sure everyone was safe. A lot of the staff there have children that go to the school and I am sure they do not want to put their own children in danger. The did a thorough investigation and things were handled appropriately. They did keep them in a controlled enviroment while the officers searched the school as opposed to letting them go and having too much chaos going on. By Joele |

I have 2 boys that go to that school and I thought the school handled it great. I was there that morning and the bullet was found outside the school. It was probably found as kids were walking to school and they dropped it before they went into the school. I was not alarmed at all. The backpacks were placed outside and the police went through all of them. The teachers went through the desks. They also checked on the grounds of the school in the bushes, etc. It was a very lengthy and thorough investigation. If anything I am more comfortable with the school because of the response to the bullets. The teachers also locked their classrooms and kept the children with them until they were given the all clear. I think the school should be praised at how well they handled the situation. A letter went home with the students at the end of the day as to what happened and what was solved. |
