Dear MMP,

With all the new Stop & Shop's built, one wonders if the chain can afford to have sales. Shaw's Supermarkets seem too busy to be closing stores to try busting unions in their last few years.  I do not foresee Shaw's around much longer.  In closing, MMP, Price Rite may be the best shopping idea for local poor.

Peace,

Ludlow1

The best thing is there are choices and opportunities for education and advocacy for improvement.

The Winter Farmers Market at 1005 Main St. is not a very sanitary operation the congestion of people in the very confined space is horrible. My wife and I witnessed a child coughing all over a vendor's bread in open containers. Most of the vendors do not pratice safe food handling (i.e gloves). The threat of H1 N1 is all around us. I can only hope the vendors are a little more vigilant this season. I will never return as a result of the containination we witnessed. Perhaps a visit from the State Department of Health is in order or are they currently understaffed?

Dear Guitom,

I will venture the people who operate Winter Farmers Market never realized how large scale their operation would become.  However, what you write may be true and something to watch out for in every market.

Peace,
