Well some follow the rules and some don't.

Metro is sending trucks around to pick up debris - when is a good question.

Bellemeade has a contract with Rumpke to pick up yard waste on a weekly basis on Tuesdays. Large pieces of trunk will not be picked up. Rumpke has ONE  man on the yard waste truck so it has to be bundled or in a can that he can lift into the truck.

Property owners are responsible for the large heavy stuff. I hired it done in my yard.

I know that there are some people who have huge piles of large branches and sections of trunk too heavy to lift that will be unsightly in their yard utnil they have it cleand up. After Metro has cleand up all the storm debris there may be a few people that have to be sent a letter - I hate doing that but - you know it needs to be done now and then.

Hi Larry - we've never met but I am the guy some may be referencing with the large cut up tree in his front yard on Bellemeade (we are not happy about it either).  We removed the tree from the street and had it cut up the very day of the storm (to our great personal expense).  We have no illusions that Rumpke will get it - however, we do believe the City should pick it up.  From looking at the grid, it does not appear they've gotten to us yet.  Whether they ever will is anyone' s guess.  I only assume my neighbors in the same predicament are also waiting. 

If anyone knows anything different, please advise.  We'd be glad to discuss.

I talked to Metro yesterday and we are on the list. THey are still planning to get done by Derby time. Key word there is "planning."

Reply to the resident on Bellmeade Road.  No,I was not referring to your tree and the stack of debris in your yard.  I am very sympathetic toward your situation, and I certainly do appreciate the fact that you had it removed from the street so quickly.  Thank you very kindly.

My observations were about people who had a standing tree cut down well after the ice storm by what appeared to be a private contractor and then stacked alonside the street.  It would seem to cost less to have the tree cut down if the contractor did not have to also grind the limbs and remove the huge trunk sections. But, is it right to ask taxpayers to remove those particular limbs and tree trunk sections?  Is it even legal? 

If there is something about this situation that should change my opinion, I am willing to listen. 

By the way, I have a large amount of unsplit trunk and large limb sections neatly stacked in my  back yard from a large tree that I had cut to keep it off the power lines.  It should make excellent firewood and is free to ayone who will haul it ALL off.
