Question ONE: I suppose they could be, The past pattern has been to post them just prior to the Commission Meeting. Any citizen could attend a Commission meeting and formally request that they be posted earlier and the Commission would rule on the request.

Question TWO: There are official speed limit signs at entrances but not all are the high way style signs. Desire a change? Attend the Commission meeting and request it.

I tried to word this as absolutely intricately pleasant and congenial as possible, but it didn't seem to work out that way.  I am so disgusted and sick of this speed problem with no solution, and even more sick of beautification and trees.

I have already relayed one item about a sign that was slowing down drivers in another of our small cities, but nobody even acknowledged that.

I have been to commission meetings to voice my concern about the absence of official speed regulatory signs as long as a year and a half ago.  I was told we have them - that simply is not true. We do not have them.  And, I am very disappointed at the reply I got this time.  It is a pure and simple cop-out.  If  people ask our city government to stop speeding in our city, step one should be for city government to post (or get posted) the speed limit signs big enough for people to read it in enough places to be effective.  I found the specifiications for an official speed limit sign in Kentucky online; it's not that hard.  BTW, only one of ours meets the specs and it's too tall.

And, about the minutes - the absolute worst reason to continue doing something is "we have always done it that way."  Come on step up to the plate and get the minutes posted before they get stale so poeple can know what is going on and can feel like we have a responsive and caring city government.  You want people to participate in city government, then listen to us and quit handing out trite, worn out excuses.  You guys are nice guys with a ton of intelligence;  give us the same intelligent respect.

Government exists solely to protect the rights of the people; not to just collect taxes and plant trees.

I am absolutely sick of the cliche, "come to a commission meeting and get involved."  This county is a representative democracy - not a direct democracy.  It is designed wherein the citizenry can communicate in writing or verbally with the variious representatives to get problems solved , or better yet headed off before they arise.  It is then government's duty to take the ball and run with it or go sit on the bench.  This is flu season and a deadly pandemic H1N1 flu is upon us, and you want us all to come and crowd into a small and poorly ventilated little room to do what you already know needs to be done ?????????????

And, to reiterate, all I want is government by consent of the governed.  My complaints are not personal.  They are genuine concerns - please treat them that way.

     #1  Obviously, more than one citizen would like to see the minutes posted sooner;

            how hard can that be?

     #2  As a city commission, deal with the speeding problem or admit to disfunctionality.

John we are NOT required to pot the Commission Minutes on the web site at all. We do it as a courtesy. Once approved by the commission they are part of our public record. I give a review of the meeting every month right after the meeting to help communicate what happened at the meeting.

The problem of speeding is serious and every community has it. We do what we can. We have asked the police to run radar more often and we have set up the speed check signs from time to time.
