Zoning at Shelby Campus

Posted in: Bellemeade - Bellemeade

Is there an update after the meeting on Wednesday night? We were not able to attend. What kind of plans were discussed? Is there a link that describes what the total future plans are for the Shelby campus? Thanks!

Wednesday night only about 40 people showed up for the community meeting as there was very little notice. There were lots of questions but few new answers.

Thursday morning: Myself and the city attorney attended the Metro Planning Committee meeting where U0fL requested that the Planning Commission request the rezoning of the Shelby campus. [This is a most unusual way to get rezoned.] It went through with great speed.

Thursday afternoon: The planning Commission met and the request from the committee was already on the agenda. Our City Attorney was there on another matter and represented us. It passed the commission quickly as well.

There will be public meetings prior to the zoning board approval where we can raise issues and request some restrictions such as building hight and light pollution. We are working hard to keep on top of this issue. The Bellemeade Commission will discuss this at the December meeting.

Are there any plans to provide access to the campus from Moorgate as there used to be?  It's very frightening when one is trying to push a baby stroller on Whipps Mill road, even with the new bicycle lanes and I don't know of any other way to get over there.  It is a terrific place to walk.  Thanks.Laughing
