Preserving Your Community: Downzoning, Designation and Developme

On November 15 the Historic Districts Council will present a panel
discussion in Queens entitled Preserving Your Community: Downzoning,
Designation and Development. This program will focus on borough-wide
planning, landmarking and development issues effecting historic
neighorhoods and buildings. The program is constructed to provide
hands-on information about grassroots preservation and to provide a
forum for interested community members who want to engage in a
vigorous discussion of current issues in Queens and to encourage
dialogue among residents regarding the direction and future of their
neighborhoods.

Attendees will hear how the historic district designation and the
preservation process works and be able to present questions they
have on current issues. Attendees will also hear from neighborhood
activists from communities across Queens, including Jackson Heights,
Flushing and Richmond Hill, about different ways of preserving
community character and historic resources; from landmark
designation to rezoning initiatives to public awareness campaigns.
Representatives from the Department of Planning, Department of
Housing Preservation and Development and the Landmarks Preservation
Commission are scheduled to participate. Simeon Bankoff, Executive
Director of HDC, will moderate the discussion.

By Subway – use the E,F,R,G,V to 74th Street and Roosevelt Avenue.

Flushing.
Exit on 82nd Street and walk two blocks north past
McDonalds.
Or take the 7 from 42nd Street in Manhattan.
