River Place

My wife saw a large black snake in our yard yesterday. I haven't seen any snakes here in 12 years. Are snakes rare around here? Are black snakes harmless? Should I kill it if I see it again or let it go as part of the ecosysytem if it is benign.

Black Snake sighting

Black ones are probably safe, but there are poisonus snakes here as well. Some ladies have said there have been some in their back yards this past year, but I know that my neighbor had a baby rattle snake in her garage about 3 years ago. I almost walked right into a large rattle snake while walking down the hill toward the club on RP Blvd. 5 yrs ago!! It was coiled in striking position and I somehow managed to instantly stop my downhill progress! Watch your kids and pets please!
