TRASH DAY IS EVERY THURSDAY.
Trash must be bagged and kept in your brown trash container. It should be put out AFTER 6PM Wednesday night before collection and the trash container put away by midnight on the day of pickup(Thursday). Recycling should go out at the same time and the 2 containers placed slightly apart as 2 different trucks pick them up.
OVERFLOW TRASH
There are only 2 times a year when overflow trash will be picked up. The week of Thanksgiving and the week of Christmas you may have ONE extra bag beside your trash cart. If you consistently have more trash than will fit in your cart, you have a few options.
1. Look to see if there are more items you could be recycling. See our recycling page for a full list of what can be placed in the blue carts. YOU CAN ORDER AN ADDITIONAL RECYCLING CART FOR FREE.
2. Order the next larger cart from the city. They will trade sizes with you ONE TIME EACH YEAR for free.
3. Purchase teal colored bags from the city that are approved to sit next to your trash bin. These are 30 gallon bags and cost $3 each. You must purchase them in quantities of 5. It's a much better idea to get the bigger cart.
4. Take your overflow trash to an drop off station. Bring a recent water bill or driver's license to prove you're a Fort Worth resident.
Drop-off station locations are:
3224 Yuma Ave. (off E. Berry St.) and
2500 Brennan Ave. (west of I-35 W).
Hours are Monday through Friday
9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except holidays
Most Fort Worth residents have nothing to worry about as garbage rules are enforced. That’s because most residents are following the new rules for setting out garbage, recycling and yard trimmings for once-a-week pickup. However, repeat offenders beware-the city is issuing citations (tickets).
The city will not ticket citizens who:
· Have requested but not received a garbage or recycling cart
· Have requested but not received a larger garbage cart
· Received a warning notice and have taken steps to correct any problems
The city and its contractor will continue handing out educational courtesy tags to let residents know when they’re doing something wrong. Code enforcement officers will continue handing out “notices of violation” that allow residents to correct problems within a given period of time (usually 24 hours). Residents who do not take action to correct violations will receive a citation. A misdemeanor citation can carry up to a $2,000 fine per violation per day.
Examples of violations include placing garbage bags outside or on top of the brown garbage cart, putting garbage in the blue recycling cart, not removing carts from the curb on time and not storing carts where they can’t be seen from a public street.
Courtesy tags and notices of violation have a City of Fort Worth steer logo or a Waste Management logo and are distributed door-to-door. A check mark or X indicates which part of the City Code has been violated.
A citation is pink and is delivered in person or by certified mail. Instructions on the back indicate residents must appear in court within 11 days of the citation date.
