NEVER open your door to anyone who is unknown. There were only a handful of people at the annual meeting for RTHA last week, but if you came, you would have heard Ft Worth Officer Speed discuss tactics that people use to case your home to see if anyone is home and when people are home. If these latest replies (different products being sold) are the same individual, especially going door-to-door for a security system company, be extremely suspicious. This may be a rouse to find out if anyone is home, and if someone has a security system or not. If not, you may be broken into. Even though I do have a system from ADT, I also have a sign out front stating so. Going door to door knocking is to see if anyone is home, if someone answers the door, then a fake sales pitch is given.
Officer Speed said to call the police when this occurs because it is suspicious activity, anything suspicious needs to be reported to the police right away. If there is another "family" that moves in to the neighborhood (or freelancers) thinking of doing a series of burglaries in RT, they will think twice if the neighbors are on the ball and report suspicious activities. Basically, criminals will go to more unaware neighborhoods & easier targets that they can get in quick & get out, or neighborhoods where nobody pays attention and the criminals won't be noticed.
He also made note that anyone selling door to door MUST have a license & permit from the City of FT Worth, otherwise it is illegal. If this "book" person does not have ID or a city permit, they can be cited or locked up.
