Hello,
I would like to suggest in case of emergency or act of mother nature that some sort of basic communication be put into place where the FRS "Family Radio's" be used for our neighborhood. These are cheap and basic form of communication when all other services go down such as cell phones and land line phones. These FRS radio's are point to point and do not rely on a outside service. These types of radios can sit in a drawer for a year and be ready anytime. These may be picked up at any box store or on-line for usually under $ 20.00 for a pair.
I would like to suggest using channel 7 on the FRS radio's - It could lead to a good thing if people in our neighborhood started using it and possibly monitoring too. This would never replace the old stand by cell phone or landline phone for calling 911, but just be another tool when bad weather strikes and people maybe want to know what is going on with other neighbors.
Let give it a shot. Any thougths.
