A concise history of the Rockford Village venue is contained in Carol Hoffecker's book Wilmington, Delaware: The Story of an Industial City. In brief, the Village was an extension of the once prosperous Bancroft Mills on the nearby banks of the Brandy- wine. These mill houses were occupied by the mostly Irish workers. By the 1960's, the old mills were closing and some homes already raized.
In the 70's several Wilmingtonian's purchased and rennovated the remaining Rockford Village houses, as well as developing and building some new homes. In 1979, all the residences and common areas were formally incorporated as Rockford Village Maintenance Corporation. RVMC is responsible for ensuring the maintenance and development of Rockford Village. All owners are members as per their deed restrictions.A book of guidelines and By Laws is available.
