West Chesterfield Community Association

A $20 million 95th Street CTA Terminal Improvement has been announced. These are West Chesterfield's Remarks made to the CTA Board of Directors on September 12.   WCCA's Remarks pertain to Minority Jobs, security and community participation.

 WCCA's Remarks

Speculation indicates CTA may purchase the land East of State Street.  This may include the vacant lot from 9401 S. State to Ed’s Livery at 9443 S State just north of the alley.

What happens to this land can affect our home value, life style and other.

West Chesterfield will host meeting(s) to discuss the station and area land usage as it pertains to conversations surrounding the purchase of property around the station.

In disclosure I am a former advisory board member of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials, a former CTA and a former RTA employee

West Chesterfield’s Requests:

As current president of the West Chesterfield Community Association we:

• Urge, strongly, that MBE construction companies (prime and general) are utilized on this project as well as area unemployed and under employed.

Ask that equitable consideration be given to the Black Contractor's United, Suburban Contractors Association, and the Suburban Minority Contractors with their membership.

• Request that the CTA commit to addressing the safety, security, and aesthetic concerns of the community within a one or two block radius of the terminal. (The goal is to reduce robberies, illegal peddling, drug sales, public urination/defecation and littering. CTA security patrols, public restrooms, security cameras, waste containers should be considered for the eastern and western areas around the station.)

• Request a commitment from the CTA to solicit community participation in the effort of identifying contractors.

In conclusion, the community requests that CTA give serious consideration to the community regarding the 95th Street Terminal and surrounding area Improvements...

Today we ask to schedule, a mutually convenient time for Chairperson Peterson, and President Claypool to meet with West Chesterfield and its partners to address our interests and concerns in order to move forward.

We have a positive relationship with George Coleman Jr., of CTA’s Government Affairs & Community Relations and can coordinate through him or as suggested.

Thank you for your leadership, requests of community input and consideration of today’s requests.

Michael LaFargue, President WCCA
