Area History

Once all farmland, the whole of this area did not become part of the city until approx. 1953, when my family sold and developed the rest of what is now Plaza Drive. Most of these new residents were retired professors from Concordia Lutheran Teachers College, now Indiana Tech.

My house, built by a farmer and his family in 1920, was only one of, maybe, 4 farm houses
in Association area. Dirt roads occassionally covered with tar to keep down dust
were lined with drainage ditches. Fences were non-existent as was crime.

My family, Clarence and Helen Nahrwold and children: Joyce and Allen moved
here in 1946; I was born next year. I grew up here and stayed, fulltime, until
1969. Although living and visiting from time to time over the next years, I didn’t
move back here fulltime until Mom passed and I bought the old homestead, April,
1998.

With the new addition of Fort Wayne/Allen County's new Community Center in McMIllen Park, we are transitioning from some problems back into the beautiful, peaceful neighborhood in which to live, work, and raise a family.  We sincerely appreciate the considerable assistance and service of our Fort Wayne Police Department: Police Chief Gary Hamilton and Deputy Chief Derrick W. Westfield as well as the staff "in Blue" for Fort Wayne and "in Brown" for Allen County!!!

We have a WEALTH of diversity in people

We are fortunate in this neighborhood to have diversity in cultural backgrounds.

What a wonderful way to experience a variety of peoples, different ideas, and
ways of life in the world without having to leave Ft. Wayne! Look forward to seeing
more celebrations of our heritages and diversification.

Drug dealers and other criminals forced the deactivation of our assoication a couple years ago.  Hence, we have to re-oranize and restructure our Association.  Our main focuses are on making every home brought up to code, beautified, and occupied with law-abiding, responsible residents and home-owners.  Working with local government, it is now possible for a group of people, especially in the RE fields, to refurbish a house and resell at market value.  This group can always be joined by anyone interested..for financial or home-ownership reasons.  To safe-keep members and all our hard work, membership in the Association is by invitation only and rolls are unpublished.  As always, however, membership may be applied for by hard-copy snail-mailed to President and reviewed by board.

We do not live in an ECONOMY.
We do not REALLY live in COUNTRIES.
First and foremost, we live on a PLANET....a living, breathing, BALANCED (for
the MOMENT, may we all be grateful) BALL.
And if we continue to abuse it, USE IT UP, control it, pave it over, poison it and
dishonor
the astonishing, LIFE-GIVING WONDER that it is, nothing, absolutely NOTHING IN
THE WORLD WILL MATTER ANY MORE.
Not your economies, not your 'bottom line', not your profit margins, not your manicured,
chemical-soaked lawns.
It's a LIVING LESSON wrapped around us.
She is a patient Mother to us spoiled children who want what we want and ARE NOT
listening.
So to every last one of you who .. 'goes organic'... starts a compost
pile,...
stops ONE MORE TREE from being destroyed......
We need to try harder, because our very EXISTENCE depends on it.

(Just like our very existence depends on one another, as true family, all descended from one woman, Eve!)

About our association

Election, reorganization = terrific changes

Recent re-organization and election naming Corinne Nahrwold as President is sure to
bring some wonderful changes in this, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Fort Wayne
and Allen County! Working to be renamed Rudisill-Plaza Homeowners Neighborhood
Association, it IS NOT a mere social group, but a group of property-tax-payers who need
to, en-mass, have a voice in local government regarding their investment and
safe-keeping of homes. We homeowners and renters alike will focus more on
making/keeping this area beautiful, safe, and pleasant for ALL, City/County/State/Federal
laws and codes obeyed.

Since 1987 with ACTIVE (CCW)

Since it's 1987-origin, the Association structure has changed somewhat, BUT our CCW
(Citizen's Crime Watch) has never been stronger! We have always had been concerned
about criminals trying to take over..scare residents..and make street crimes like
prostitution and drug-dealing, common-place.

This neighborhood is OURS and we do everything we can in cooperation with local, state, and federal
authorities to make it a safe place for all. Many who side with this forcing out of people
who have actually lived in this area for most of their lives, even built own home, base
their belief in being "right" on people's need to survive by these street activities...even
claiming it all being a part of their community-culture. All this in a time of a bi-racial President of our United States..amazing!

It is time for these criminals to change their ways or go to jail where they can no longer
infect and endanger decent law-abiding citizens! IT IS ALSO TIME FOR THOSE LANDLORDS WHO RENT TO THESE CRIMINALS TO EVICT..OR LAW ENFORCEMENT WILL STEP IN AND MAKE IT HAPPEN !!!!

Newsletters/dues collection online

While the old way of doing business was to collect dues from homeowners who cared to
belong to the Association and distribute paper newsletters by volunteers, this is no longer
practical. In truth, most of all the information previously-gotten directly from the
President, is now listed in the local newspapers, available for a minimal cost delivered to
your doorstep. In the future, we hope to post them all on this website and mail copies to
those members who do not have Internet access...when there is actually some money in
the Association till. Likewise, we would like to be able to hire a group of lawn and
home-care professionals to maintain those properties currently neglected; hence our dues
are now $25 per home. We currently only collect dues online; write me for instructions.
