Southwest Community Association of Neighborhoods was founded in 2000, incorporated in 2003 and established as a 501-c-3 charitable/educational organization focusing on neighborhood improvement in 2007. Since its founding, SCAN has worked with neighborhood groups in Southwest Metro Louisville providing the services we express in our Mission Statement. This web site is but one tool SCAN employs to provide information and resources to the communities we serve.
Over time, you will notice that our web site is not static, it is ever changing in order to accomodate the needs of the Southwest Metro neighborhood groups.
Here are a few examples of resources available on our web site:
"Great Schools". This web site is committed to providing parents with information and tools to choose schools, support their children's education and improve schools in their communities.
"Clean Air - Environmental Defense". Environmental Defense is dedicated to protecting the environmental rights of all people, including future generations. Among these rights are clean air, clean water, healthy food and flourishing ecosystems.
"ScoreCard - Pollution Information Site". Get an in-depth pollution report for your county, covering air, water, chemicals, and more.
"Environmental Protection Agency" - "Window to My Environment". This is a powerful web-based tool that provides a wide range of federal, state, and local information about environmental conditions and features in an area of your choice. This tool is provided by U.S. EPA in partnership with federal, state and local government and other organizations.
"Toxic Polluters Database". provides free access to numerous environmental databases. With the information available on RTK NET, you can identify specific factories and their environmental effects, and assess the people and communities affected.
We also provide for neighborhood groups some direct links to Metro Louisville Government Departments like "Metro Air Pollution Control District", "Metro Planning and Design Department", "Metro Inspections Permits Licenses", even "Metro TV Programs".
Our link to the U.S. Census Bureau's "American FactFinder" is a fantastic source for population, housing, economic, and geographic data.
There are many more valuable links and pages under "Community Pages", "Community Hot Links", "Neighborhood Information", "Local Government", and "Police and Safety".
One link of particular value is under "Community Pages". The title is "Announcements & Notices". It changes frequently and contains information on many varied events and topics.
We are open to suggestions for additional resources.
All the Best,
