The South Louisville Community Ministries (SLCM) was founded in 1975 as an association churches. Currently, 50 churches of various denominations support SLCM. Our primary service area is zip codes 40209, 40214, 40215, and part of 40208. This encompasses an area roughly from U. of L. to I-65 to the Outer Loop to Manslick Road / Seventh Street Road. Youth services are provided to an expanded area that includes 40216. The Adult Day Center draws from the south end and the west end.
Representatives from all member churches elect the twelve-member board at the annual meeting. The board hires and supervises the executive director who manages a staff of 23 full and part time persons and a budget of approximately $675,000. Funding comes from individuals, churches, judicatories, corporations, foundations, local government, state government, and the federal government. This does not include our subsidiary, the Louisville Economic Opportunity Corporation ((LEO), that builds affordable housing and has a budget of approximately $ 400,000.
When SLCM was founded, it’s core services were emergency assistance, (financial, clothes, and food) and home delivered meals. Over the years, we have added services as needs became apparent and resources were secured. Currently, SLCM provides the following services:
FAMILIES
Emergency assistance
Stork’s Nest
Comenzando Bien
YOUTH
Juvenile court diversion
Truancy Prevention
Kids Caf?©
OLDER PERSONS
Adult Day Center
Counseling and health promotion
