Sylvan Highlands National Night Out

Dear Neighbors,

National Night Out is a community-police partnership held on the first Tuesday of every August since 1984. It is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada with the goal of increasing awareness about police programs in communities such as drug prevention, town watch and other anti-crime efforts.  Initially communities held lights-on vigils.  Now, many communities hold block parties, festivals and other events to help bring neighbors together.

We have an amazing neighborhood!  Let’s make it even better and more beautiful. We can work together to increase awareness, safety and our sense of community.  The first step is to KNOW and Care about your neighbors and your global community.  We can make a difference through the Sylvan Highlands Neighborhood Association. 

April and Alan, 5973 SW Taylor St., have agreed to sponsor this worthwhile program. Refreshments will be served at the front of our driveway, and in several surrounding driveways between 6 and 8 pm, Tuesday August 4. Please come by, graze and meet your neighbors.

Our goal in agreeing to sponsor this year’s event is to meet our neighbors from surrounding streets.  Name tags will be provided and we ask that you include your name (first name only is OK) and your STREET.  Please talk to FIVE people you have never met before; Five is not the limit, go for more! Let’s talk about neighborhood watch, checking on each others property when out of town, noticing that newspaper not being picked up by an elderly neighbor.  We can make our neighborhood more vibrant, welcoming and safer.

April and Alan will be providing carnivore chili, vegetarian chili, rum cakes and some plastic utensils and cups.

Things we could use help with: plates, napkins, veggie/fruit trays, ice, beverages, servers, set up and break down help, crackers, chips, desserts and anything else you would like to share.  April will keep track of what everyone is bringing so please contact me at hanaterror@yahoo.com or call me at 503-246-3638. 

We want to meet you and share our bounty even if you are unable to bring a dish.  Please let April know if you plan on attending so we can track the need for food and beverages.
