Two people, a man30ish, short, blond & stocky joined by a younger blond girl "trainee"

were pushing AT&T sign-ups tonight at about 7pm. When I asked for metro ID, he showed me a picture id card that looked like a company id. When I again questioned him for a Metro id, he said that he'd spoken to our mayor (even knew his name) and the mayor told him it was ok to use the id he had. Then he started his spiel again, asking how many tv's I had, what I was paying for my cable service and what my name was. He was VERY pushy & left only when I said "No! I said NO!" and shut the door. I watched out the window to see where they would go next. They just kept walking down the street and didn't go up to other doors, so I got in my car and followed them to see where they were parked (about 6 houses away). They went briefly to their car, then came back out and started walking back in the direction toward my house. I circled the block and when I pulled into my driveway, they had passed my house and continued walking down the street, going up to no houses.

If we're going to ask for a metro id, don't you think it would be a good thing to be able to see what those ids look like? Why not scan one & post on the website?

In addition to the complaints posted on here, I received seven more through Neighborhood Watch.  Consequently, I emailed our LMPD Neighborhood Watch Resource Officer.  He gave me the following information.

They do need a permit from Metro for random door-to door solicitation.

They do NOT need a permit to check with existing customers.

Call the police to have them cited..

As an FYI, the Metro permit is a plastic card approximately the size of our Kentucky Motor Vehicle Operators License (drivers license) clearly marked as a Metro Permit.  Maybe Mayor Odom-Groh, who has downloading privileges to this site, could post a copy on here for us (HINT).

As a further FYI, the solicitors cut a wide berth around my door.  Also, a little NO SOLICITORS sign is very effective, and if they ignore it, call the police and have them cited for trespass.
