Drive Slowly.
1. Summertime is particularly dangerous for speeding traffic on our HEHA roads for the following SAFETY reasons:
There are more children and animals on the road than at other times of the year.
The bushes and brush foliage growth and tall grass decreases visibility at curves, turns and intersections.
Traffic volume in general might, arguably, be greater due to our increased personal activities, guests, visitors, and contractors; just to name a few reasons.
2. Summer is also a time when we should show greater COURTESY toward our neighbors regarding dust and noise. Road dust and vehicle noise become more of a problem as some of our neighbors like to have their home windows open when it is warm outside. Increased road dust caused by excessive vehicle speed becomes particularly troublesome on the gravel roads.
Also, your vehicle engine may be sucking in large quantities of dust into its air filter. This causes clogged air filters which reduces your gas mileage and costs you extra for more frequent new air filters replacements. And since air filters are not perfect, some of the fine grit can cause you to need more frequent oil changes, and possible cause increased wear of oil lubricated moving engine parts.
Also, when approaching oncoming traffic on the gravel roads you might consider pulling off toward the side of the road, if safely permits, and possibly even shutting down your engine as the oncoming vehicle slowly passes you by. This will help prevent excessive road dust in your vehicle's air filter; and because you slowed and/or stopped, the other vehicle will not have to proceed through your cloud of dust.
As a matter of safety and courtesy for your neighbors, please slow down.
Thank you.
